A two-part project by Nakayashiki Norihito and others who preside over the theater company Persimmon Eats. Part 1 says, “Read 'Cherry Orchard! ' In the “Reading Workshop” and Part 2, a “meeting to think about various forms of theater (roundtable discussion)” will be held, and participants will be recruited for each.
Part 1 deals with Chekhov's “The Cherry Orchard.” Director and playwright Nakayashiki will act as facilitators for “Cherry Blossom Orchard,” which will be performed in the same building 2 days later (directed by Shawn Holmes), and actors Keizo Nagashima and Rio Harada (both belonging to “Customers Who Eat Persimmons”) act as assistants, and enjoy the play together with the participants. What is noteworthy is that the eligibility for participation is “those who are interested in theater (regardless of age or experience).” This is due to the idea that “theaters should be open places,” and it is a unique opportunity for non-professionals to get in touch with creations.
Part 2, “Meeting to Think About Various Forms of Theater,” is a roundtable discussion where participants unravel what happens until the play reaches the audience, and think about the form of theater while sharing it with all participants. The speakers were Nakayashiki, producer Yamada Saaya, members of the Kochi Drama Network concert, and participants. It was born from the desire that people from various positions would meet in one place and not communicate something unilaterally, but by getting to know each other while having a conversation, they would broaden their horizons related to theater and expand the fun of watching a theater.
For persimmon eaters, who haven't often held workshops alone until now, this is a new challenge that also includes a wish “I want them to know that theaters are places they can go to more easily.”
