I want to create opportunities to get involved with theater even when I start work

A project where theater workshops will be held in October, November, and December for people with disabilities at the Gangwon Riverside Theater, which was newly established in 2020 in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture. The reason for the project was that the theater held a drama workshop at a special needs school in Hyogo last year.
It was the first attempt for the school to create a theatrical work in a total of 10 workshops for third-year high school students, but by working on something different from usual, the students demonstrated abilities that teachers and parents were unaware of. The students also said “it was fun” and “I want to play such a role next time,” and it seems that it was a meaningful time.
From that experience, there were voices saying, “There aren't many opportunities to get involved with theater after graduating from school,” and “can we make it a place that can be enjoyed as a leisure activity at work,” which led to this project.

Start practicing by taking a few steps

There are 10 workshops in total, and participants are invited from the public for 15 years and over.
As a result of searching for a style that is easy to participate in, instead of suddenly starting practice, they first do 2 “trial workshops”, actually see what kind of place the theater is, and then decide if they can do it.
Those who decided to participate because of that will get to know each other while creating small works in 4 one-off workshops, and the next 4 sessions will practice for the actual performance. Visitors will be invited for the actual performance, and it will be performed at the theater.

The Gangwon Riverside Theater thinks “I would like to continue this project continuously if possible,” even in the sense of an opportunity to increase the number of theater fans. That new challenge begins.
